About Coach

I joined CrossFit Viroqua over seven years ago. I had just moved to the area, knew no one, and stopped in the gym to get a membership. When I saw that CrossFit was offered, I knew I had to try it! I had heard of CrossFit before but had been too intimidated by the people and the cost. I knew the workouts were hard, but I thought it would be something I’d do a couple of times a week, and then (like all the exercise programs I had tried previously) I would quit after a couple of months. Nothing ever seemed to hold my interest for very long. Little did I know, this would be the start of a whole new appreciation of fitness, friendship, and community. What I didn't expect from CrossFit were the mental health benefits. I go to CrossFit when I'm feeling my best. I also go to CrossFit when I'm feeling my worst. I go because I know the benefits of just showing up are even more impactful than the physical ones. Being around a group of like-minded, positive people ALWAYS makes me feel better. I have never once left the gym and wish I hadn't gone (in fact, I bet I could say that I've never left the gym without laughing or smiling). I might have hated a grueling workout at the moment, but the laughter and camaraderie from CrossFit make it worth it. This also drives my desire to be a CrossFit coach. When I coach, whether it’s in a class or in personal training, I want to create an atmosphere where people can get away from all their other stressors and just focus on bettering themselves.

Turning Point

My intention when starting CrossFit was pretty simple. Lose weight. That was the only goal I had ever had when exercising. Alone, grudgingly going through a workout or a run, all I cared about was "How many calories have I burned?" I can even remember a time when I rotated from elliptical to the treadmill to bike until I had burned 1,000 calories…ahhhhhh, yuck and BORING. CrossFit changed that. Building strength and muscle (especially in women) is a game-changer. I now have a much healthier relationship with exercise, nutrition, and my body. I still want to see positive changes (who doesn’t want 6-pack abs? 😊), but I can gauge that by so many other factors now. Am I stronger? Am I faster? Is my mobility getting better? It's no longer about just the number on the scale. It's about my overall health and wellness.

Motivation & Passion

I am excited to work with anyone who is ready to make a change and find out how much FUN fitness can be! I love seeing the moment when new member really pushes themselves and gets out of their comfort zone. I want to help encourage members through the toughest parts of workouts, and to be there to give fist bumps as they’re sprawled on the floor post-workout.
